Appetiso brings to Kolkata the Taste of London with a Twist!

We Bangalis have a penchant for fries. From mochar chop to macher chop, our lives depend on them. Many of our college-day memories involve Kalika, and we are all thankful for Mitra Cafe and Apanjan. Even as we go fancy with our snacking, we pick – surprise, surprise – fried chicken from the US and Fish and Chips from London. And, now we have the all new Appetiso, a brand that aims to cater to the fry needs of Kolkatans, with a delicious range of snacks.

With the aim to offer London-style street food with an Indian twist, Appetiso has two outlets in Golpark and Kasba and their menu includes some really fun items, like the classic fish and chips, as well as fish with a Bengali twist, i.e. the fish with kasundi! It’s a takeaway place, and you can also order for your food to be delivered, through Zomato or directly from Appetiso.

Items I Tried

I have tried five items from their menu: a) Good Ole’ Fried Fish n Chips, b) Crusted Chicken with Lime Infusion, c) Stuffed Chicken Mozzarella, d) Chicken Finger, and e) Fried Fish with Mustard Sauce. The first thing I noticed, as I tried each of these items, is how much they all stood apart, and how each item presented a different set of flavours. Honestly, I loved all of them. I thought the Crusted Chicken was slightly chewy. I suppose they can work on making the pieces smaller or thinner to make the fibres softer and less chewy. But, I must say that I have no complaint about its taste.

As for the other items, I loved everything about all of them. They all had a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture; the batter on the outside was light, thin and tasty, and each of them was really fresh. If I have to pick a single recommendation, I will probably have to say the “fried fish with kasundi sauce”. No, it’s not just a piece of crusted fish with kasundi as a condiment on the side (although, with such soft, well-cooked basa, I’m sure that would be absolutely awesome, just like in case of the fish and chips.) The fish is prepared by marinating it in kasundi, so that our favorite condiment gets infused into the fish itself.

But, then again, I would like to suggest that you go and try the other items as well. I just loved the Stuffed Chicken Mozzarella and the Chicken Finger. And of course, the Good Ole Fish n Chips!

Try them. You will not be disappointed, for sure!
