High Tea by Fuji and Karma Kettle – An experience that will titillate the senses

My life as a blogger takes me to different restaurants and food destinations in the city. I am glad to say that I’ve loved several of them. But, there are only some places that manage to steal my heart. Two such places have miraculously collaborated recently to do something wonderful and titillating. These two places are Fuji, the Oriental restaurant in Sarat Bose Road, and Karma Kettle the tea boutique in Ballygunge Place. And their collaboration has resulted in the most satisfying and innovative Japanese High Tea!

The Concept fo High Tea

Historically speaking, the concept of High Tea is quite British. It began as an afternoon meal for the working class, but over the years, became an evening supper for the ‘leisure class’ who marked it as an important event or get together with a practical purpose. The world has adopted High Tea, too, all thanks to the British Empire. While tea is an important part of High Tea, you’ll usually see various delicate sweet and savoury tit-bits, from crumpets to sandwiches, from scones to pot pies, on the table.

That’s why the concept of a Japanese High Tea seemed completely new to me. While Fuji has added the authentic Japanese titbits, like Sushi, Tempura, Karaage, etc., to it, Karma Kettle has come up with the most aromatic tea options from their collection. The result is the incredible reinvention of the idea of High Tea, where a traditionally British concept has been reimagined to include Asian flavours and aromas, with the beautiful combination of Japanese tea and food – in the heart of Kolkata. Now, isn’t that the fusion of food at its best?
