Karma Kettle Presents High Tea with a Twist for Kolkata Foodies

Karma Kettle Presents High Tea with a Twist for Kolkata Foodies

There’s something about the idea of high tea that makes me feel very English and dainty. Fine China, the bitesize food that’s difficult to name served on multi-tiered cupcake tray stands, tea cosies on the table it’s all really fancy. High is available in different restaurants in Kolkata, be it in the original form or presented with the touch of a different cuisine. And, I’m happy that my favourite tea joint in the city, Karma Kettle, has joined the league, and how! They started with a collaboration with Fuji for a Japanese high tea.  And now you get two different styles of high tea here, the vegetarian Burra Saheb High Tea with Bengali tit-bits, and the Gora Saheb High Tea with delicate English treats, at their outlet. And the world is a better place because of them.

Located in Ballygunge, Karma Kettle is this wonderful place, and I have had a thing for its woody interiors and the ambience that reminds me of Darjeeling, ever since I set foot here. It’s inside the Ivy House, which, with its pretty blue doors and Ivy-laden walls, reminds me of the pictures in the English lesson books from school. And, it’s justified that this place has come up with its own high tea variants. While the Gora Saheb includes classic favourites of an English high tea, like Quiche, Macaroons, Tarts, Pies, etc., while the Burra Saheb the favourite snacks that the Indians munch on, like Pakoras, Samosas, Tikkis, etc., with Bengali sweets, of course.
