Kolkata Fashion Walk 2 – My Learning Experience as A Blogger

Kolkata Fashion Walk 2 – My Learning Experience as A Blogger

Kolkata is a city known for the creativity, talent and beauty of the people. Some of the most noteworthy writers, painters, designers and models are from Kolkata. But, why am I talking about such random groups of people? Well, I’m trying to ease into blogging – fashion blogging, to be more specific. The Kolkata Fashion Walk 2, in association with Tribonista, The Swiss Laundry and Pen Twister, was a fun and interactive event organised by for fashion bloggers. And, I was part of this hugely successful event.

After the huge success of the first leg of Kolkata Fashion Walk, the organisers decided to go for it again, this time with more bloggers. And, as a fashion and lifestyle blogger who is always eager to learn, I decided to join in. And, I must say that it turned out to be one of the most enriching and encouraging experiences for me.

Key Moments of Kolkata Fashion Walk 2

The whole day’s events brought with it a number of sessions, each of which was special in its own way. I arrived, dressed with a touch of Kolkata, while the city started to get wet in a drizzle.

1) Interactive Session with Key Speakers

Some of the most well-known and talented bloggers in the city addressed the participating bloggers, and talked to them about various aspects of blogging. As I interacted with the key speakers and heard other bloggers share their problems and aspirations, I saw the areas that need my immediate attention.

2) Prop Round

The next round involved a prop activity, in which all the bloggers were divided into groups, each led by a speaker and an organiser. (My team was led by Dolon Dutta Chowdhury from Pout Pretty, while Nikita Manchanda from Pen Twister mentored the group.) And each group got to pick a prop, sponsored by Pooch Box, a new destination for the cutest of products for pets! And we got to use one such pet prop to create a look, and click a whole picture around it! I had loads of fun, turning the one boy in our group into Charlie Chaplin, with a cute bow tie from Pooch Box, as the rest of us posed as his fans! Who cares that my group did not win?

3) Scavenger Hunt

Then began the most interactive, fun and educational part of the event – the Scavenger Hunt. Various clues and descriptions led us to some of the leading fashion destinations, all of which are located in the Elgin Road area. The clues led us 26 locations! Yes, 26 top notch designer stores, boutiques and other fashion destinations – all in just Elgin Road area. I even lost my way! After all the running around in the rain, all the panting, laughing, and rejoicing, I can name some of the must-visit fashion havens in Kolkata, like Geeta Circle, Shree Geeta Square, F Studio, Urban Haat, Ommbre, Simaaya, Siya, Urban Pataka, Pranay Baidya, and so many more!

4) Gifts, Surprises, Certificates, and Selfies

And finally, after several hours that went by in the blink of an eye, the event came to an end. It was finally the turn to announce some winners for the best-dressed participant, the social media butterfly, the winner of the hunt, etc., and hand out the certificates of participation. The takeaway from this round was that bloggers can never be too tired to take some pose and click – though, admittedly, we did it throughout the day!

My Experience in a Nutshell

As I said before, I consider myself a complete newbie, and hence, I am always eager to learn. And Kolkata Fashion Walk 2 was a learning experience for me, from the beginning till the end – starting with thinking creatively to add elements to an ensemble to express oneself, to using simple accessories for an interesting look; from recognizing the amount of hard work it takes to make a self-run magazine succeed, to learning about my own strengths and weaknesses. But the biggest thing I learnt was to have faith in my passion for the art of fashion, and for writing about it.
