My Diwali Outfit 2017 – Taking Simplicity to A Festive Level, with FBB!

My Diwali Outfit – Taking Simplicity to A Festive Level, with FBB!

Lately, whenever I see people around me having fun during the festive season, screaming joyously about their holidays, picking beautiful outfits, I have to fight the urge to punch them in the face. Because I have no holidays on Indian festivals, all the happy, beautifully dressed, well-rested people make me jealous and tickle the violent streak inside me.

I had no opportunity to go shopping for Diwali outfits this year. Meanwhile, the FBB festive collection 2017 kept taunting me. So, I decided (read, went with my only option) to get creative, and unleash my inner stylist. I went through the FBB app, FBB online store, their social media platforms and the FBB stores in Kolkata to browse through their collections and steal some Diwali outfit ideas.

My Simple Diwali Outfit Base

So, for my Diwali outfit 2017, I pulled out something I had picked up a couple of months ago from FBB ladies kurti collection; it’s a plain suit design: a long kurti with a straight cut, in black. What had caught my attention about this at the time I bought this suit were its length, its high-low hemline, the four slits, the front buttons giving it a shirt look, and the collars; the elements are are capable of making plain salwar suits look special in a subtle kind of way.

Why I Chose This Suit

Instead of pulling out a gorgeous Diwali party outfit, I went with this simple one. First of all, for Bangalis, Diwali is synonymous to Kalipujo. We also associate the colour black with power and beauty: quite rightly so, I guess. Hence, I picked my black kurta. I think I bought it from the outlet of FBB at Shakespeare Sarani Road. (It had one of the best Diwali dress collections in Kolkata at an affordable price, by the way.)

How I Styled a Simple Suit

With that black cotton kurta, I paired a pair of red palazzo, because red is yet another colour I associate with beauty and power, and of course, Ma Kali. Its flare went well with the cut of the kurta, and the colour added an electric pop to the look. To make things more interesting, I also threw on a shrug, which I had had sewn from a tailor a couple of years ago. The white shrug, with kantha stitches and a red border, pulled the whole look together. The stone-studded, gold-plated earrings and neckpiece, along with the golden jutis, added just the right amount of festive mood to my Diwali outfit. and of course, the power of makeup is absolutely undeniable!

So now you know, as much as I do, that there’s no need to have shiny, embellished clothes to make a festive event special.

Pay special attention to a) duppatta/shrug; b) bottom-wear; c) makeup; d) jewellery; and e) shoes. It’s very much much possible to turn a plain suit into something absolutely glamorous, and not have to apologise to the glamorously dressed for not having the time to go shopping!
