My Jodie Sweetin-Inspired Valentines Day Looks

Ever since I laid my eyes on Jodie Sweetin’s fusion outfit at the People’s Choice Awards 2017, I knew I had to recreate the look. She wore a voluminous white dress with roses printed on it. While it’s a dream dress in itself, what attracted me was the addition of a quirky layer: a black leather biker jacket! So, this Valentine’s Day, I decided to do something inspired by the mix-and-match outfit. Take a look at my Jodie Sweetin-inspired Valentines Day looks!

Jodie’s Look – And Criticism

Jodie brought a little bit of both world to the red carpet by pairing an elegant dress with a leather jacket. To further accentuate the ‘fusion’ feel, she sported ruby lips, black nails, a messy updo with a pigtail, and quirky accessories. Sure, critics have not taken it well, and most of them have slammed the outfit. Gibson Johns from AOL Entertainment called the ensemble a ‘total mish-mash’, while Zoe Shenton from Mirror said that her style sense needed a “helping hand’. But then again, I neither understand how the mind of the fashion police works, not care much for it. I’m all about crazy fusions – Indian with western, elegant with athletic, formal with casual: everything goes!

My Recreated Looks

I picked two dresses. The first was a light pink, short baby doll dress, clinched at the waist and flaring out in the most adorable manner. It had cute flowers printed all across it. The other was a light blue mid-length blouson dress with the neckline gathering in folds. It had abstract floral pattern randomly appearing across it, and because of the soft, flowy fabric and body-hugging shape, it glided along the curves. The first one was cute and girly – it felt appropriate for the kind of dress a girl would wear to her first Valentine’s Day. The blue one, on the other hand, was more on the sassy yet elegant side, as my friend described it. It felt more me. And, on top of that, I threw on a faux-leather biker jacket. You may remember the biker jacket from my previous FBB looks.

My Suggestions

It doesn’t have to be 14th February to make these Valentines Day looks work. You can pull it off on a date night, or any regular day when you want to look pretty, just because. If you want to take this ‘bold and beautiful’ look to the next level, play with the accessories. Pick a leather clutch, like Jodie did. If you, too, want to pick a dress that shows off your legs, instead of a gown, you can wear black boots. The white sneaker has been a trend in 2016, and I love it. I thing sneakers will look great with this ensemble. My suggestions: sneakers with Look #1, and boots with Look #2. Remember to be brave, be graceful. Just be you: that’s the best way to impress your date – or, or just be impressed by yourself every time you see your own reflection!
