At least once in every person’s life comes the fitness phase. During this phase, even the laziest person on earth finds time to hit the gym every day. Walking 10 kilometres in half an hour becomes the biggest goal in life. And cooking good, clean food becomes a satisfying hobby. And then, all the enthusiasm suddenly starts to slip out of the window after about of month of heavy gymming in the middle of looking up recipes on youtube, buying exotic, low-calorie ingredients, blanching vegetables, steaming quinoa, and poaching basa. I speak from experience, folks.

My Tasty and Healthy Smoothie Bowl Recipe with Just 6 Ingredients – Inspired by ‘EAT GOOD FOOD’

I figured that the best way to stay committed to a fitness plan is to keep things simple. That’s why I love free-hand exercises, brisk walks, and food that I can whip up in a jiffy, without burning a hole in my pocket. Salads, juices, smoothies, etc. are among my favourites. Recently, I was at one of my favourite health food cafes in Kolkata, Eat Good Food, by Henna Nafis; I’ve always been in love how delicious and flavourful they make their health food. Their smoothie bowls and fruit pancakes, in particular, have a piece of my heart. I have always wanted to make them, they were that good! During my last visit, I had the opportunity to watch a luscious mango smoothie bowl being prepared. So, I got inspired and enthused to developed my own version of a healthy smoothie bowl recipe.

My Healthy Smoothie Bowl Recipe

The recipe includes some extremely common ingredients that are usually in all our refrigerators. and the entire procedure will take just about 5 minutes. Trust me. Even children can make this, it’s so simple!

Ingredients:

The smoothie bowl can be the answer to any kind of food problem you have, be it a sudden hunger pang to a pre-workout snack, a breakfast or a light lunch. The amount of each ingredient you’ll need depends on you, of course. My recipe here is for a katori; it makes a small, but extremely filling, bowl. To make my six-ingredient smoothie bowl, you’ll need:

For the Smoothie Base:

  • Yoghurt (Greek-Style/Hung) – 2-3 tbsp
  • Mango – 1
  • Sugar Substitute – to taste (I used an equivalence of 2 tsp sugar)

Preparation:

You can either make the smoothie in a blender, or put your ingredients in a mixing bowl and use a fork to mash it all up, like I did.

1. Let’s start with the mango.

You will need to make half of it into aa puree, and cut the remaining half into cubes. I’m sure you use the regular way of cutting a mango up into three slices – two cheeks (slice them thin) and the middle slice with the seed.

  • Turn the cheek pieces into cubes. For this, place the slice in your palm, and use a knife to cut into the flesh of the fruit to form squares. Then, use a spoon to scoop the cubes out of the flesh. Keep these aside.

  • Use the pulp around the seed, to make the puree. Remove the skin. Then, use a knife to cut away the pulp from around the seed, or, use your fingers and get messy!
  • Here’s a shortcut I use – there’s no need to make the puree separately. jut the puree in the mixing bowl/blending jar, to be blended with the yoghurt directly.

2. Add the yoghurt to the mango.

Greek-style yoghurt is the best for this recipe, for a thick smoothie with a silky texture. I used Danone Greek-style yoghurt. If you can’t get that, use hung yoghurt. If you don’t have time for that, use regular yoghurt; just put it in a small strainer right in the beginning and let it rest, to eliminate the liquid, before adding it to the mango.

3. Add Sugar Substitute.

You can use any sugar substitute of your choice. There are several available, like stevia and all. I used sucralose from Sugarfree Natura. The good thing about it comes with a small measuring spoon inside, and it is equal to one teaspoon of regular sugar. I needed just two level spoons of the powdered sucralose to give my smoothie bowl the appropriate taste; the fruits will do the rest.

4. Blend these ingredients until smooth.

As I said before, I used a fork to do it. You can use a potato masher. To make the texture really smooth, pass the mix through a sieve. But, this takes a little time. Besides, I like the slightly pulpy texture. so, I don’t skip using the sieve.

5. It’s time to add the seeds!

Add the chia seeds, 1 tbsp of the flax seeds and 1/4 cup of the pomegranate seeds, and fold all the ingredients in with a spoon.

6. Go fancy – add the garnishing!

Put the mix in a serving katori. Top it off with the mango cubes, and the rest of the flax seeds. Add pomegranate seeds. the contrast of the lovely seeds and the luscious mangoes, with the ruby nuggets on top will make you want to dive in immediately!

AND IT’S DONE!

It took just six easy steps. Now, wasn’t that really fast? honestly, I could have made several bowl in the time I took to write this blog! If you have more time in your hand, then leave it in the refrigerator; the chia seeds will plump up and give the bowl a gelatinous texture. You can always customise the healthy smoothie bowl recipe. Use any pulpy fruit like bananas, strawberries, etc. for the base. I have tried the strawberry smoothie bowl at Eat Good Food, and it’s absolutely heavenly. The pomegranate seeds add a lovely crunch, as well as a fresh taste in every bite. You can substitute it with muesli. You can add grapes, or top the bowl off with amaranth seeds (Ramdana). Just have fun with it. It’s also excellent for children, though you might want to skip the chia seeds for them.

Good Food, Regular Activities – Suggests ‘Eat Good Food’ Owner!

When I went to Eat Good Food for a bloggers’ meet, the place has impressed me immensely, with its absolutely delicious items on the carefully curated menu. During my visit, I had the opportunity to talk to Eat Good Food’s creator, nutritionist Hena Nafis; she mentioned that having an active lifestyle is as important as eating healthy. Both are equally difficult for people these days, as we remain engaged in various activities from the morning till the night. I think the best way to stay committed to good food and an active lifestyle is to keep things simple.

True, it becomes difficult to hit the gym every day, and exercise for hours. So, find time for some brisk walking, free hand exercises, asanas, etc. I know it’s not possible to stick to a diet plan all the time. What you can do is stick to the food groups as suggested by your doctor; I try to have as little of carbs as possible. And, eat healthy at home. To do that, you need simple meal plans and recipes. This smoothie bowl is a great breakfast, or an on-the-road snack you can carry in a mason jar. I have even had it for lunch. It’s a great way to keep healthy eating simple. You won’t feel like your missing out of taste, either, because it’s that delicious.
