Of Moments, Memories, Fun, and Sharing: Fujifilm Instax in Kolkata Creates A Pre-Digital Era Buzz!

Among all the things that have fascinated me about the American culture as portrayed by the soaps, the two things that top the chart are high school prom nights and instant photo booths. While my chances of attending a prom night are slim, capturing instant pictures are very much possible, thanks to the incredibly cute Fuji Instax cameras. Fujifilm India’s incredible range of instant cameras, which allow the users to click and get printouts immediately, was recently brought to the notice of Kolkata’s bloggers during an interactive event at The Park, and I have to say, it was an evening of fun, with a retro touch.

As a 90’s kid, I have seen the change from analog cameras that used film rolls, to digital cameras that use SD cards. I remember being charmed by the photographs coming out of cameras at a time when we had to wait for several days before we could actually see out shots, thanks to the analog cameras and film rolls. These are stuff you’ll soon see in the museums, because we have stepped into the age of digital cameras and smartphones.

About Fujifilm

One of the major names that come up while looking back at the pre-digital era is Fujifilm. The brand started its photo imaging business with motion picture films. They brought a wide range of photography-related products to people, including printing materials, film rolls, etc. They remained among the market rulers during the analog photography age. And, then, the digitalization of photography happened. You can see what your photos will look like before you even click them! You don’t need to wait for printing – you can just see the best of colours on your pc or phone screen! Plus, you get to do all the cool things like posting it all on social media, and saving them as wallpapers of the phone and laptop!

Yes, analog cameras didn’t really stand a chance in the competition with digital ones. So, why did Fujifilm suddenly decide to come up with a new range of analog cameras? Because, to put is simply, the Fujifilm Instax range is more than just old school analog cameras. It has the potential to create a new wave of photography Renaissance, bringing back the sentiments associated with taking physical copies of moments and people. And, when that happens instantly, creating memories and gifting people with a palpable reminder of those can become much more exciting. The idea truly has endless possibilities. All because you have the opportunity to just point, shoot and get an instant print of the image. Plus, the cameras are incredibly cute!

The Instax range has six models, appropriate for different users, and can become an accessory for anyone, from a little girl to a suave gentleman. The models differ in specifications and looks. The Mini 8, Mini 25, and Mini 70, available in a wide range of shades, are perfect for the young and vibrant users, while the Mini 90, available in brown and black shades, and the Instax Wide 300, in black, have an old-school, wooden look, that’s perfect if you want your camera to look  classic and mature. The cutest of the lot is the Instax Mini Hello Kitty, which looks like the much-loved Hello Kitty, and is just the right camera for children. The cameras start at a price of Rs.5,999/- and they go up to Rs. 12,999/-.  Fujifilm also produces the films necessary for these cameras, priced between Rs. 1020/- and Rs. 3,500/-.

Instax Combo Packs

The idea behind introducing these cameras is to provide people with a chance to have fun clicking pictures, creating and capturing moments, and gifting memories to each other. So, Fujifilm has taken this idea to a new level with their 3 Instax Mini 8 combo packs, i.e. Mini 8 Bundle Pack, Mini 8 Festival Box and the Mini 8 Party Box. Each of these packs includes a camera, films, and other fun accessories like stickers, frames, magnets, etc. These are just perfect for parties; imagine how much fun it will be to have instant photo stations, and decorate them with stickers and frames for the guests? These combo packs are also the perfect gift for anyone who likes to have fun – or needs to be introduced to it.

Bloggers’ Meet to Introduce Combo Packs of Fujifilm Instax in Kolkata

The bloggers’ meet to discuss the range of Fujifilm Instax in Kolkata became an example. It was essentially supposed to be a seminar on this camera range; we also saw the introduction of the combo range. However, the fun factor of the event escalated, not just because of the trivia quiz about Kolkata which earned me two boxes of sinful hazelnut chocolates, but also because of the cameras. Then, we used the majority of the evening to click fun pics with each other, and as the little sheets of paper came out of the cameras, it was a whole different level of thrill, waiting for the images to slowly appear on them! We clicked ourselves and each other, making faces and striking poses, and we gifted those photographs to each other. I imagine being in a photo booth I have been so fascinated about must be something like this!

My Instax

For me, it was love at first sight. So, I have saved my Instax Mini 8 that I received as a gift from the Fujifilm India team at the bloggers’ meet, to put it to good use. A week from now, I will be leaving town for a trekking trip to Sandakphu in North Bengal. My team and I will be staying with the locals. I know that people go to the mountains all the time and click pictures of the people, only to show off their portraiture skills. But, I intend to leave the people a few memories. I plan to carry my Instax with me, to click some pictures of them, hoping that they will smile for me, and to gift them with the lasting memories of their own happy faces. That’s the best part of getting Instaxicated – to shoot, print and share the joy.
