Pre-Release Press Conference Of The Film SAANSEIN

Call it Halloween, or Bhoot Chaturdashi. End of October seems to mark spookiness around the world. And, as an extension of this celebration of all things eerie, a new romantic-horror movie, SAANSEIN, is soon to hit the theatres. The film’s male lead, Rajneesh Duggal, and television heart-throb, Hiten Tejwani, were in Kolkata for the pre-release press conference of the film Saansein: The Last Breath, along with director Rajiv S. Ruia, and music director Vivek Kar.

I know what you’re thinking – probably what I was thinking when Gourmetstravelguide.com invited me to attend the promotion at Hotel Golden Tulip: YET ANOTHER ROMANCE HORROR FLICK! After all, Bollywood has churned out several of these in the past few years, and most of them have been very disappointing. Granted, they have often given us unforgettable songs. But these films have mostly turned out to be more funny than scary, and tried to pull the crowd with sultry women writhing and grinding in scenes that are completely irrelevant.

So, what’s different about Saansein?

As Hiten explained during the press conference of the film Saansein, there’s a line beyond which the fear factor dies. “We have tried not to cross that line,” he says. The VFX in the movie, its story and everything else concentrates on delivering a believable plot and execution. Plus, I found it an exciting proposition to go watch the movie with family members. Yes, Saansein promises to scare parents and children together, without forcing either to run and hide, or go red-faced.

Saansein: Story, Characters, and Everything Else

The story is about Abhay, played by former Grasim Mr. India, Rajneesh Duggal of 1920-fame, who falls in love with Shirin, portrayed by Telegu film actress Sonarika Bhadoria. Soon, he realizes that Shirin, and her sister, Tanya, played by Neetha Shetty, have some uncanny incidents affecting them. That’s when he gets in touch with CK Bir, brought to life by Hiten Tejwani. Bir, a professor who has a deep interest in the supernatural, agrees to help. Now, whether he manages to help the girls and Abhay escape the clutches of the ghostly affairs or not is something that Hiten and Rajneesh refused to divulge, of course.

But, they did go on to talk about the significance of the clock set at 12.30 on the movie poster. It is believed that the supernatural forces come to life at 12.30, according to Hiten. “3 am is the peak. They continue till about 4-4.30 am, when they are very, very strong.” Speaking about the experiences of filming Saasnein, they informed that it was shot in Mauritius. In fact, the climax has been filmed in one of the officially abandoned sites of the island. Even the cast and crew got nervous during the shooting.

And The Music Is Already A Hit!

Aside from the film’s storyline and the performances of mostly fresh faces, its music is something to look forward to. Vivek Kar, who seemed elated to be back in Kolkata to attend the press conference of the film Saansein, and speak in Bengali, has worked his magic. Mera Ishq, sung by Arijit Singh and Tum Jo Mile by Armaan Malik have become instant hits on the radio and online. Personally, I love both of them. I’ve also completely fallen in love with Dil Ye Khamakha, in the refreshing voice of Dev Negi.

Verdict:

To sum it up, I feel Saansein has prioritized the storyline, and tried to cater horror-loving Bolly-buffs of all ages. The hotness of the actress is not the USP of the movie. While it is set against a picturesque backdrop, and has soul-soothing numbers, location and music play their appropriate role in the movie, i.e. enhancing the story and its mood. Pretty intriguing, I must say.
