Sunburn Kolkata 2017 – Music, Friends and Lots of Fun!
What’s the one thing that you can ditch your friends for, and still expect them to understand? SUNBURN! That’s what happened with me when a sudden invitation to visit the Sunburn Festival this year came my way from FBB, and forced me to change my plans with my friends. Strangely and thankfully, they all understood. because, SUNBURN, duh! And there I was, on a busy Saturday evening, travelling through the heavy traffic of Kolkata to reach New Town Eco Park where the event took place, with a friend. And, all this was because of FBB, the styling partner for Sunburn Kolkata 2017, who sent me two invites to the event!
Sunburn Kolkata 2017 – Music, Friends, and Lots of Fun!
The Sunburn Festival is a three-day music festival. Touted as Asia’s largest music festival, it is an EDM event, and is definitely a special kind. Hundreds of young music lovers flock this festival and dance their hearts out to the entrancing Electonic Dance Music. I mean, what could be better than getting the chance to dance to loud music beneath the open sky, while drinking beer? Only at a music festival of this kind, for sure!
Sunburn Kolkata 2017
After its first day at Pune, Sunburn 2017 came to Kolkata in February. And, it brought with it the incredible music of DJ Snake & Nuleya. The event ground was brimming with excited youngsters in their tweens and late teens when I arrived. For me, it was like a huge fair. Not the Kolkata Book Fair kinda fair that I know and love, but a carnival for young adults. It was a place to have unrestricted fun.
DJ Snake breathed life to some peppy Bollywood and regional songs, and made the visitors keep their dancing shoes on. Aside from the music and the drinks, there were also fun activities to participate in. FBB, for instance, had a two-player dance video game at their booth. The visitors followed the steps of the bots on the screen to win points and beat each other.
As someone with the dancing skills of Dharmendra and the enthusiasm of Prabhu Deva, the name, Sunburn, was enough to get me on my two left feet. I was there with my friends, and we us were evidently older than most of those present at the Sunburn Kolkata 2017. Like a bunch of old people, we arrived late and decided to leave in an hour or less, because, after a busy day, we were pretty drained.
But, once the music started, we forgot our exhaustion, age, plan to leave immediately, and the fact that we were overdressed in our Saturday semi-formals, and yet looked plain and underdressed for the occasion! We lost track of time, we danced, we laughed at the others’ crazy moves, for a much longer time than we had planned. And, at the end of a surprisingly amazing evening, we went back to our families or night shifts – to our four walls…
I’m going to the Sunburn Festival next year – that is, if I don’t have an evening shift.
